Tutor & OT Responsibilities


Tutor:

GOALS OF POSITION

  • To help the learner improve on their literacy skills.

COMMITMENT

  • 1 - 2 hours week, not including exams and holidays
  • Min. 6 month commitment.

OUTLINE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsibility for learner during tutoring session
  • Tutoring in accordance with the Student Centered Individualized Learning (SCIL) philosophy.
  • Communication with OT and RC
  • Report incidents/issues of concern to RC
  • Confidentiality.

BOUNDARIES AND LIMITS TO THE POSITION

  • Not being alone with learner
  • No tutoring in homes
  • No learner(s) in vehicles
  • Cannot be paid tutor for learner in program
  • Role is as a tutor.

ORIENTATION AND TRAINING REQUIRED

  • Mandatory Training
  • Orientation Session
  • Training Session (min. 3 hours)
  • Follow-up training if applicable.

SUPPORT, SUPERVISION AND EVALUATION PROVIDED

  • Probationary period – 3 months.
  • Ongoing contact with OT/RC
  • Evaluation/feedback interview- tutor
  • Evaluation/feedback interview – learner & caregiver
  • Site visit/spot check.

MANDATORY ACTIVITIES/ ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Log Book
  • Confidentiality
  • Registration/Documentation of learners
  • Contact with OT/RC – including notification of absence and tutoring time/location.
  • Obligation to follow-up/respond to OT & RC
  • Attendance at tutor's meetings
  • Tutors are accountable to the Frontier College RC in their area.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

  • Frontier College will pay for all screening associated costs.
  • Each program has a pre-approved specific budget for supplies, transportation etc.


 

Organizational Team Member:

GOALS OF POSITION

  • To lead and administer FC-SFL programs/partnerships.

COMMITMENT

  • Min. 6 month (exclusive of holiday and exam periods)
  • Hours per week 2-5 hours (varies according to time of year).

ACTIVITIES AND TASKS ASSOCIATED WITH THE POSITION

  • Administration of Frontier College programs in community
  • Working as part of an executive team with other OT members and RC
  • Implementing program and policy decisions
  • On-going communication with RC and Frontier College
  • Implementation of Frontier College policies, mission statement and SCIL philosophy
  • Representation of Frontier College in community
  • Responsible for participating in all campus activities
  • Direct responsibility for administration of one tutoring program (e.g. reading circles).

OUTLINE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recruitment of tutors and learners
  • Interviewing and selecting tutors and learners
  • Matching tutors with learners
  • Assistance with training of, and resource support for, tutors
  • Tutor and learner support
  • Supervision and evaluation of programs, tutors and matches
  • Fund-raising
  • Budgeting and managing finances, keeping financial statements and submitting expense reports to Frontier College
  • Community liaison and outreach within campus and community
  • On-going communication with OT members, tutors and learners
  • Liaison with community partners involved in programs
  • Volunteer appreciation
  • Recruitment of new OT
  • If tutoring, position description for tutors also applicable
  • Report incidents/issues of concern with tutors or learners to RC
  • Confidentiality.
